The Sanctuary

I’m sitting in our room at the Sanctuary waiting to get my ‘PH test’ to see if I can begin my fast tomorrow. If my Ph levels are low enough I will begin my seven day fast in the morning…I am actually looking forward to the fast, I think it will be a great test of my level of discipline, as well as a great detox for my body, which I think is highly needed.

As for the Sanctuary, well this place totally rocks! We arrived yesterday early afternoon and I feel totally at home in this special place. It is on Koh Phagnan, at Had Tien beach. From Koh Samui we took a fifty minute (slow) boat ride to Had Drin beach (150 baht), and then took a ten minute taxi boat to Had Tien (100 baht). I can’t begin to explain how beautiful this island is, especially Had Tien bay where we currently are. The taxi boat ride was quite nice, my first ever!!!

Once we arrived on the bay we had to wade in the water to get to shore – and it was quite a bit of work carrying our luggage over our heads to shore. The pictures speak for themselves, but they don’t do this place justice! Our room isn’t as quaint as most of the bungalows here at the Sanctuary, but I gave into Kwang and we got a room with A/C – there are very few of them here and apparently the rooms with A/C are just that, rooms. So we are missing out on the really cute bungalows situated up in the hills, but to Kwang’s bliss we have a room with a TV and AC…I’m not complaining but next time we come here (and yes there will definitely be a next time) we are gonna stay in one of the bungalows with mad character.

We honestly didn’t do much yesterday…We got settled in our room, went and got some food at the fantastic restaurant they have here (although I will not get to REALLY try their food till after my fast). I had a rabbit salad, while Kwang chowed down on some great smelling fish and veggie tacos. The atmosphere around the restaurant, as everywhere else, is simply amazing. After we ate, we took some time to scoop out the two yoga shalas here, the spa, sauna, massage area, email center, beach, wellness center where those of us who choose to fast spend a lot of time, and we also checked out a lot of the bungalows here at the resort. We felt kinda pooped so we opted to rent a DVD and watch it in our room instead of taking advantage of the spa (but I’ll be sure to do a lot of ‘taking advantage of the spa’ while I am here).

Today has been really wonderful too. We got up a little after nine and went for some breakfast – I had a fruit bowl and some fruit juice (not so filling but quite tasty). Then we hung out for a bit before making our way up the monstrous hill to the yoga shala (we practiced in the Zorba hall as opposed to the Buddha hall). Zorba hall is gorgeous! It is situated about ten minutes up a steep hill…Covered by trees galore, it rests on stilts. The shala itself is quite large, made of wooden planks, with an incredible view of the ocean the trees and other nearby bungalows. Needless to say Kwang and I had an amazing practice there, and really got a good sweat on. This was the first day that Kwang and I did a self practice TOGETHER! It was truly amazing!

After practice we came back down the hill and grabbed a bit to eat – another rabbit salad – yummy!

We just finished watching Passion of the Christ – wow, some intense stuff! Well, I’ll leave you with this for now – but take a moment to check out the pictures. Remember I miss you all very much and hope you are doing well.
