Banana Pancakes!

Another great day in the best place on earth!

Today totally rocked!  As it is Saturday we got to rest from asana practice (yoga), but we did meet at 7:30am for our daily pranayama practice (for those friends of mine who are thinking ?%#&*)%*#&@(? – that is a form of breathing and a very important part of a ‘yogic’ lifestyle).  Anyway, I am really getting back into my pranayama practice and really enjoying it…You should do it twice per day in the am before asana practice and food and in the evening before you eat dinner.

After pranayama and whatnot we had breakfast, which is super special on Saturdays – BANANA PANCAKES!!!  Now, you truly couldn’t possibly appreciate these special pancakes unless you were lucky enough to eat them – and I do feel sorry for you all b/c you are missing something really amazing…They are the best tasting things in the entire world!!!  And seeing as how I am a pancake expert, you can trust me on this.  When I was here in ’04 I thought the same thing – and really looked forward to Saturdays as the highlight of my entire week b/c of these amazing eatable delights – but believe it or not they have gotten EVEN better since ’04…Impossible to fathom I know, but it is true.  Needless to say I experienced a little piece of heaven for a few brief moments this morning.

Pretty soon after breakfast, Kwang and I rented a scooter and started our journey around the island of Koh Samui, Thailand.  We wanted to make our way to Chaweng for some shopping and Starbucks (one of the few ‘corporate’ things I truly love).  However, we took quite a detour as we got a little lost…No worries though, actually part of what made this day so great was seeing much of the island we never ever thought we would have.  Really neat and backwoodsy!  Funny thing is we almost ran outta gas – we couldn’t find a station anywhere near where ever we were…But, alas we came upon a Gasoline stand (literally a stand) and were able to refuel and find our way outta nowhere!

We did finally find Chaweng though and had a blast walking around the town today.  We spent a good five hours just walking around from little shop to little shop haggling over some items we wanted – and If we got the right price then we bought!  One of the great things about Thailand that I really enjoy – the power of bargaining and the fun of it too!  I got a couple shirts and shorts, as well as a couple cool bookmarks and a neat bag.  Kwang found a couple good buys too!  We spent the rest of the time eating street food or drinking – I am such a fan of Watermelon right now – I am not so sure what my deal is but I stopped at the fruit vendor at least three times today, twice for watermelon and once for pineapple.  Also consumed at least three coconuts, two diet Pepsi’s and two coffees…Total caffeine overload today, but that seems to be the trend when you get away from Yoga Thailand for a day.  Sure you can make some coffee at the main office, but you really only have one cup per day – and there is no such thing as soda here.  So I know I go a little crazy when I leave the property….Oh well, I am only a human soda loving girl – what can I say!(@*?

Kwang and I both got a lot of sun this afternoon, which I must say was much needed as we both became pasty white individuals in India (which is a bit sad as he is a dark skinned Korean, and I am naturally on the dark side myself).  But we should fix that problem over the next few weeks seeing as how we are on a tropical island and are staying RIGHT on the beach…I literally go to sleep every night to the sound of the ocean…I know it is really crazy I feel like I am in a dream world right now and totally trying to soak up every second of it before it ends.

Anyway, on our way back to Yoga Thailand it started to rain and we both got soaked – but for some reason it wasn’t only funny that we were getting soaking wet, getting hit by fast hard rain, and couldn’t really see anything, but it was also just plain fun….Can’t totally explain it but we both enjoyed the moment and we both laughed like we haven’t in so long…This trip is really making us appreciate life so much more.  It’s more than I could have ever asked for.  To understand that I am in a third world country that has so much beauty, yet so much poverty and filth…To be in a place that works in such a different way, on different time in a different language and for different reasons…To be here with the person I love doing the things I love most in this world…To be exploring my soul in a far away place with no distractions of home…To be – In the moment – Present – Here and Now!  Well, I gotta tell you it is awesome and I hope that anyone with any such desires can achieve this too.  It took a lot of hard work to save the money, make the plans, and most importantly – find the courage but it is totally possible for anyone.

I wish everyone a beautiful Saturday – Om Shanti!
