Happy Moon Day! It has been a very good day for me! I began a new tradition today – fasting on moon day. I have never fasted before, so today was quite a bit of a challenge for me – but totally worth it. I plan to continue fasting every moon day – so twice per month, during new and full moon. As there is no asana practice on moon days, this is a really good day to do it, and it is really quite a spiritual experience. In addition to fasting (no food but I did take juices), I also meditated in the morning, afternoon, and evening. I woke up and did my meditation straightaway. Then I headed to the gym and did 45 minutes of cardio (I haven’t been in over a week and I felt the desire to sweat out some built up toxins). From there I came home and had some orange juice. Around 12pm I did another hour of meditation, then had carrot/beet root/apple juice!

 

Afterwards Kwang, Girish, and I went to the Sandalwood Oil Factory – it was really a wonderful little trip! A very nice gentleman gave us a very thorough tour of the factory and explained the process of extracting oil from the sandalwood. He showed us each part of the process, and allowed us to touch the woods and even gave us a little oil. Once we left the factory Girish took us to a little juice stand and I got a pineapple juice with no sugar (as that should not be consumed during the fast). Kwang got an orange juice with sugar, and I must say it was WAY too sweet – thank goodness I opted for all natural juice!

 

As we were driving back into town I noticed Girish (our rickshaw driver) very carefully dodge a cow – and a few moments later swerve closely by a human. I thought it a bit odd that he took more care to avoid the cow than the human – so I asked him, “What would happen if you accidentally hit a cow with your auto?” He said he would go to jail for at least six months!!! FOR HITTING A COW. “Well, what would happen if you accidentally hit a person?” That would only get you two days in jail! “Well that makes sense,” I thought! Of course – only in India.
