Reflections

My body is finally feeling better, but my energy level is still lacking.  I’ve found getting back into practice after a week down to be very difficult in deed.

Our second set of roommates left on Sunday, so the house seems quite a bit more quite these days.  But that only reminds me that I only have two more weeks in India myself.  I truly can’t believe 2 ½ months have already flown by…It really seems like only yesterday I arrived here in Mysore.  No complaints, this time has really been amazing on all fronts.

I do look forward to my upcoming trip to Thailand to study with Paul again in Ko Samui.  Kwang and I will fly from Bangalore to Bangkok on August 1st and we’ll stay there till the 5th.  Then we’ll make our way to Ko Samui and begin the advanced training program on the 6th of August.  I am really excited to see Bangkok and hang out there for a few days.  I think it’ll be a nice change from Mysore, and there is a good yoga studio in Bangkok, so I look forward to checking it out.

Hum…In general I’ve been doing a lot of thinking these last few days…Financially looks like we may have to head back to the states after our trip to Ko Samui!  That’s a real bummer, but since Kwang and I are gonna move outta Florida when we return, we obviously need money to make the move and have a couple months worth of bills saved up too.  We could definitely check out Thailand for a few weeks after Paul and Jutima’s but we think we might just head home b/c we don’t want to really struggle to get ourselves elsewhere.  We will get it all figured out in the next couple weeks!  And then there is the move itself – where???  Well we don’t quite know ourselves yet.  Kwang has made some pretty good strides himself while here in India, in terms of figuring out what the heck he wants to do with his life.  He is a tremendously amazing golf player but hasn’t really pursued it before – he wants to give that a try for a couple years to see how far he can go.  I am totally supportive of that b/c I really think he’d done a lot of growing up here and am really ready for that next step in his career path.  However, that will change where we can move (we were originally thinking Washington DC)  He needs to be somewhere he can play golf year round – obviously Florida is the best state for that, but I want to move somewhere else, and I really fear he won’t be able to really grow if we go back to Florida.  Right now we are seriously thinking about Louisiana, but will make a definite decision in a few weeks.  I’ll keep ya all posted…

Today has been like most this week – pretty light…I did enjoy practice very much today, and Sharath gave me Supta Vajrasana, which was a bit of a surprise to me!  I was in the middle of doing Kapotasana and he was right next to me helping someone else.  As soon as I did my vinyasa he sat next to me and told me to get into the pose!  “Sure!”  It was really nice to do the pose with Sharath’s assistance, and I must say much more challenging than I’ve experienced it before b/c he made me hold my own hands (with his help).  Afterwards I did my backbends and then Sharath assisted me in drop backs.  By the time I went to the locker room to do my finishing poses I was dripping with sweat.  How nice!  I had such a great rest that I didn’t want to get up…When I finally did I went outside for a nice refreshing coconut – two actually…Quite yummy and totally re-hydrating.

Afterwards I made my way home and did my pranayama and meditation.  This morning was a bit of a challenge – my mind was all over the place – but hey it happens.  Then my mama called me and we got to chat for a good hour.  It was so very nice to speak to her, as I haven’t talked to her on the phone since I left the states almost two months ago!  She seemed to be doing really well, and that makes me feel better!

At 10:30am I had my 6th Rolfing session, and I must say today was the most intense for me thus far.  Ken did the whole of the back body and it was SO POWERFUL! He said that it made sense for me b/c every part of the back body is related to the tail bone, which is a bit deformed on my body.  I have begun to learn that the ten will feel totally different for everyone b/c everyone has a totally different body with different issues and ailments.  For my former roommate, she seemed to find the fifth session extremely intense, but not so much with the sixth.  Hum.  All I know is this one was by far the most painful, but I know it was really strong and will eventually help make some really positive changes in my body.  The work Ken did with my tail bone made me want to scream, and crawl from the table – but I stuck through it b/c I know it is only gonna help me!

Since I’ve been home I’ve done some reading on the net, and then took a nap with Kwang (who is still sleeping away).  It’s just been like that this week – everyday I’ve needed a nap for a bit and I’ve been going to bed pretty darn early too.  I guess I’m just rebuilding my strength, “one by one!”

    Hi there!

I’ve been following your blog (and loving it!) since a little after you arrived in Mysore. I really consider it a special gift (and reading it is one of the highlights of my day!) as I too plan to do the pilgrimage in Fall 2007.

In the interim, I am contented by my daily practice here in South Korea (I’m a Canadian expat working abroad) and the possibility of practicing with Paul in Thailand (if he’s got room) for a few days while I’m there on vacation in October.

You mentioned today that you also plan to practice in Bangkok. Before heading to Ko Samui, I’ll also be spending a few days in the city, and would love to get some yoga in while there. Where will you be practicing? Can you recommend a place?

Thank you Krista for sharing your thoughts with the world. Again, they are a precious gift.

    Lana
