Wonderful Day!

Good afternoon all!

I gotta say it is hot as all get out here in Mysore today – but that hasn’t put a damper on the day one bit.  Let’s see – where to begin.  First of all I must say that I was really feeling ill the last week or so, but all that began to change yesterday afternoon.  Physically I started feeling much better – and boy oh boy did that change my outlook on everything – it really is amazing how the physical affects the mental and vice versa.

Anyway, I started feeling better and I then made an appointment for my first ever acupuncture sesssion.  My appointment was at 3pm yesterday afternoon.  Andrea, a fellow yogi here in Mysore, does this and teaches yoga back home in CA.  I met with her and after she asked me a bunch of questions she stuck some needles in me!  Wow, I gotta tell ya I have thought about doing it tons of times, but just never got around to it – likely b/c the thought of alot of needles being inserted into my body just didn’t appeal to me.  However, it was not unpleasant at all.  Quite nice actually – I think I laid there for a good thirty minutes or so.  I definitely felt some things happening in my body and really have faith that this is going to really help my energy start to move again, which will aid my body and mind in many ways.  She talked about stagnant Chi and how acupuncture helps get your chi moving again the way it should.  I don’t know much about this stuff yet – one of my new projects to learn a lot more about it – but I can tell you I believe it is powerful and will help me in many ways.  So, i am going to meet with her three times per week until I leave India!

I also opted to go find a new frame for the one I helped to break at the shala last week.  for some reason it was still on my mind and bothering me.  Although I didnt’ feel totally responsible for breaking the glass frame at the shala last week, I did want to make things right.  So Kwang and I rode around town and found a store that sold picture frames.  I found a nice wooden frame that I thought might be large enough to hold the certificate that was inside the other frame.  Then after my acupuncture session I took it to the Shala and gave it to Sharath – I told him that I wanted to replace the frame that was broken last week.  He seemed very pleased that it was replaced, and that brought closure to that little issue for me!

So that was the excitement of my day yesterday.  Today has just been great all around.  Although it was rather challenging getting out of bed this morning – it was nothing a good ’semi’ hot shower couldn’t fix. I got to the shala feeling uber stiff – but I started opening up nicely by the time I finished the standing sequence.  The shala also seemed to heat up a good 20 degrees by that time as well, so that definitely helped my body get warmer.  I practiced next to Kwang today, which is always nice but also very distracting b/c I just want to get up and adjust him in every pose.   Poor guy is working so hard with the practice but he has quite a while to go before those shoulders and hips of his will really begin to open up.  He knows it takes time and discipline and patience though – and he is loving the practice and knows he will get deeper with time.

Once I finished my dropbacks with Guruji today Sharath told me to add three more poses tomorrow morning – so that made me happy b/c I am still quite a bit away from where I used to go at home in the second series.  I am really enjoying my practice here but I really want to get to the place where I need help in second series – including the three poses I will add tomorrow – I am still seven poses away from where I would be if I were doing my own practice at home.  PATIENCE…DISCIPLINE…HUMILITY…PASSION…DEDICATION…These are all things I practiced at home, and continue to practice here in India – and the beautiful thing is that I am understanding them more fully here than I ever did back home.

Now that I am feeling better physically I am really able to enjoy my time in India once again, and boy I sure am grateful for that.  For a few days there I just wanted the comforts of home when I was feeling so miserable…I think that is only normal though – to want to be somewhere that is comfortable to you when you are not well – it is hard to stay strong mentally here when you are weak physically…Now that I am back to myself I am loving this journey again and totally grateful to be here.

After practice we got our daily coconut fix and headed home.  Around 8am Kwang, Rosie and I took the 45-50 minute walk to the Regalis (southern star).  Today we opted to eat breakfast at their yummy buffet.  It sure was good and we were all starving – so it totally hit the spot.  From there we headed down to the pool where we stationed ourselves for the next two hours straight.  Rosie and I sat in the sun and read for a bit.  Kwang laid down in the shade and fell asleep straightaway.  After about an hour I was burning up so I took my book (which I highly recommend “From the Holy Mountain: A Journey in the Shadow of Byzantium” by William Dalrymple) and sat with my legs in the pool for a good thirty minutes.  After two hours I felt as though I had had enough Indian sun for the day.  So I woke Kwang up and we got a rickshaw home.

Once we got home I went back to the phone to call Dell for the 1,0000000000000 time!  Finally though after an hour on the phone with a Dell Supervisor who finally listened to me and all the problems I had had – all the people I had spoken to – all the different answers I’d been given – all the numbers I had been given, etc….She initally tried to push me off with another number – but I refused and told her i wanted her to call that number and find some answers before I got off the phone with her.  After being on hold for ten minutes she came back apologizing to me that I was right – she had called three different numbers and no once could help her or even direct her to someone to help me with this issue.  All she could do for me was schedule a specialist (someone higher than her – and she was higher than any of the reps I’d spoken to) to call me back this evening.  So I am really hopeful that they actually do call me back, and that I am able to finally get someone to help me with my computer.  Please keep you fingers crossed for me!!

Well I am off for now – gotta run to Loyal World to grab some groceries b/c we have nothing to eat at the house.  I wish everyone a beautiful day.

OM SHANTI
