Lights, Camera, Action!

So, just in case you haven’t heard – a film is being made!  What?  Well, not really so sure myself.  All I know is that a bunch of guys with a bunch of cameras were at the shala filming the second series led practice this morning after the primary series group finished up.  Eddie Stern was there and I ‘think’ I heard one of the camera men say that they have been working on this for a long while now – maybe another sort of documentary of Guruji and Ashtanga Yoga…Not sure, but it was obviously very distracting for the people practicing second series.  I stayed to watch the second series group practice today and lo and behold, other people wanted to watch it too!  It was kinda interesting though – and really neat to see that some people could still stay totally focused on their practices even though strangers were walking around with large cameras taping their every move.

So that was the most interesting thing that happened today!  But the rest of the day has been pretty darn good too – and it’s not over.  After practice and after watching the second series group practice – I went home starving.  I woke Kwang up and we walked over to Shakti to get some breakfast.  From there we walked to the pool at the Regalis hotel – a very nice walk I must say.  We hung out there for almost three hours – that was more than enough time in the hot ass sun.  I actually got some color today (YEAH)  I was starting to get a little pasty white.  Then we rickshawed home (too lazy to walk the 50 minutes back from the hotel – that sun just took the wind out of my sails).  Made some grub, read a little, and actually sat down and watched TV for a good two hours – watched CSI for the first time in my life – and I now understand why people love that show so much.  GOOD STUFF.  I’m now sitting at Anu’s checking email waiting for my massage with Kumar at 6pm.  I am very much looking forward to that – as my body is telling me I am long overdo for a good massage.  I think that will take about two hours, which means I’ll get home around 8pm -

So I’m gonna wax happy for a moment – if you come to India for an extended period of time you may or may not experience a period of time where you really, really want to go home!  But, be aware that you May.  I know I have experiened it, my roomate Peter has experienced it, and Kwang is experiencing it now.  It comes and goes, but usually occurs when you are not feeling well physically and you seek something comfortable in the midst of your utter discomfort.  I felt like that for a good bit of last week when I wasn’t feeling well at all.  If you do go through that just know you are not alone at all.  Kwang and I have been here since may 1st and we will be here till August 1st.  I think if you are here for two or more months it is quite likely you will go through a spot of it (especially if you have never been here before).

I am finding that India is a place I hate to love and love to hate…Everything works very differently here than in America.  EVERYTHING that would take ages in America takes two seconds here – and everything that takes two seconds in America takes forever here.

India – Getting you bike/car fixed.  If you were in America and you broke down you were shit out of luck for at LEAST an hour.  You would likely have to call triple A and then wait for an eternity till they arrived to help you out.  Well Kwang and I broke down in the middle of nowhere yesterday and I think it took a total of ten minutes for someone to help us get our bike to a shop and get the bike fixed (I am not kidding either – maybe ten minutes tops).  Another example:  THE DOCTOR – Yesterday I was able to see a doctor here during non business hours…And it took one phone call from Anu and five minutes later I was at the Doctors to see him!  Volia….

On the flip side – America: Getting your computer fixed!  If I was in America when my hard drive went kaput a Dell tech would have been at my house the very next day to replace my hard drive with a brand new one.  Here in India – lets see my drive went poo two weeks ago and I am still a good three weeks before I will be up and running again.

What can I say – things just work so differently here – but they WORK – that is the amazing thing about it all.

Hi Krista. I did not know that Kwang had accompanied you to Mysore. What an experience for him; that is great. It’s also great you both could move your work around to be able to go and spend several months there.
    Namaste
