Palace Lights

What a good day all around.  Practice was good – a challenge – but good.  After practice I came home and straight away began working – had a lot to do today so wanted to get started.  Made some breakfast here and then headed over to the Green Hotel for the Organic market (only occurs on Sundays from 10-12 and you HAVE to get there early b/c everything goes super fast).  It was small but quite nice.  I got some dried bananas (yum), some beautiful handmade stationary and cards, and some natural medicines…Kwang bought some tofu, hummus, and basil.  It only took about 20 minutes to finish up with the market – and afterwards Kwang, Linda, Claudia, Stephan, and myself sat down in there nice little outdoor resturant and had some Chai.  I got some really beautiful pictures of flowers around the hotel and organic market!

Then we headed back home to crank out some more work for a couple hours before Guruji’s talk at the Shala at 4:30pm.  This is the first Sunday since we’ve been here that he has done his talk – but I think it will become regular from here on out.  Surprisingly the talk only lasted about 10 minutes – but Sharath said next week to come with questions written on paper.  Right after the talk I signed me and Kwang up for the Sanskrit (reading and writing course) that meets Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 5-6pm – only 700 rupees for the month…There is also a Sanskrit chanting course that occurs the same days of the week from 6:45-7:30pm (wanted to sign up for that too but didn’t bring enough money).  If there is still room we will sign up for it on Tuesday when we have our first class.

Kwang and I went over to Anu’s Cafe to grab some dinner and boy was it yummy today – the indian food is starting to sit much better in my tummy….

Then Linda, Kwang and I headed out to the Mysore Palace to see it for the first time (only on Sunday they will light the palace from 7-8pm and it was very beautiful to see)…

It was extremely crowded though and some strange characters came out of the woodwork.  A few guys were really trying to hit on Linda and me and everytime I tried to say goodbye and walk away they would follow behind.  Finally I grabed Kwang and we started to leave.  Kwang had an interesting experience of his own.  Some guy offered him Ganga (I tell you Kwang seems to get offered drugs here all the time) and Kwang kindly refused the offer so the guy started to wax happy about how yoga students are selfish people who are here to make themselves happy but aren’t concerned about making any of the Indian people happy.  I was not present during the conversation but it seemed a little odd.  And the trip home was interesting too – many people try to take you for all they can here and the Rickshaw driver’s are the worst.  Our ride to the Palace was 27 ruppes and the drivers wanted to charge us b/t 50-100 rupees to take us home.  Finally we found a driver who was honest and willing to use the METER…We paid him extra b/c he wasn’t trying to rip us off…

I was dead tired when we got home so I just cleaned up and hit the sack….
